Am I lactose intolerant?

Question:
Before I became a vegan i had HORRIBLE stomach aches.
After I ate, At night (but usually not at ramdom times during the day)
I felt very healthy when being a vegan
But then I quit being vegan, now im a lacto-veg (eats/ drinks dairy but no eggs) And the horrible aches continue, but not during the day its mostly at night
and yea i have gas but dont alot of people?

I mostly eat and drink soy... and i try to stay away from dairy. But i do eat cheese sometimes like 3 times a day

I hope im not, i dont want to go vegan again until i move out!

BWT: If it turns out i am lactose intolerant, then can i still eat cheese? if so, then how much is too much? And milk?
Oh geez! plz help!

Answers:
only baby cows drink cow's milk. there is no need for you to consume it in any form -especially if there is pain associated with doing this. try other alternatives such as soy, rice, or almond.
well i have the same situation. i am lactose, but i am not very bad. i just get an upset stomach everytime i eat or drink anything that is dairy. so yeah,. there is a possibility that you are lactose intolerant, there is also this thing called wheat gluten, which is in a lot of foods, and can cause the same symptoms as lactose, but it's celiac disease. what i would recommend is for a week, don't eat anything that is dairy, and see what happends, if you don't get an upset stomach, then for another week, try and not eat anything that has wheat gluten in it, make sure to eat dairy,. and see what happends. if your stomach upsets are not bad, and you don't get any diahrea, or anything. then it is safe to eat what you want. your body is probably just not use to the things that you are now putting in them, give it a little while. but try those things i told you to. only if want to. if you think you need to, you can go to a doctor, but looking up information is a lot cheaper. for your gas,. you can get some beano or something that helps with the gas. hope this helps, and make sure to read everyone's idea about what to do. i am not an expert.
First off, Lactose intolerance is NOT an allergy, but low or nonexistent levels of lactase, an enzyme that breaks down lactose, a sugar in milkcertain ethnic groups-blacks, Middle Easterners, Asians, Hispanics, and Indians. An allergy to milk is usually a reaction to either/or both cassein and whey, proteins in milk. If you are lactose intolerant, but still have some lactase production, you will have to find out by trial and error, how much milk and cheese you can tolerate before symptoms occur. The same with milk allergies. With lactase intolerance, you can get milk products, containing lactaid that has already broken down the milk sugars.Yogurt to will help with lactose intolerance. With milk allergies, you can be tested and desensitized. The symptoms of lactose intolerance and milk allergies-gas, bloating, stomach cramps, diarrhea(rare), indigestion, heart burn, and itchy skin(rare) are essentially the same and, more often than not, people have both. You can NOT use yogurt, or use what you can tolerate(trial and error).Another possibility is, you are allergic to soy. Since you are already using soy, try almond, banana, rice, or potato milk substitutes.if you are drinking milk for the calcium, even though it is high in calcium, it has low bioavailability(body usage). You can get more cacium from many vegetables-high bioavailability, low calcium and eating fish with edible(emphasis) bones(i.e.-sardines).
