Can Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) mimic Endometriosis?

Question:
My doctor thinks I have endometriosis but says that I could possibly also have irritable bowel syndrome. Are these two diseases related in any way? Can you have both at the same time or does one or the other cause you to get the other? Do they have similar symptoms? (I'm seeing a gyno on 17 August - my doctor is recommending a laparoscopy be done to diagnose endometriosis. If nothing comes up, he is going to refer me to a gastroenterologist.)

Answers:
Yes they are related. I have endo and symptoms of IBS but I do not have IBS. The laproscopy is not that bad I have had 2 of them. Make sure you have a heating pad ready to go, straws, good pillows, comfy pajama pants (LOOSE), and GAS-X. During the surgery they inflate your abdomen with air so they can see your insides better. They remove most of the gas, but what remains causes TERRIBLE pain. Take gas-x a few hours after surgery and continue to take it as symptoms persists. Good luck...you will be fine.
