Lactose Intolerant Question?

Question:
My friend told me that even though I am Lactose Intolerant that I could eat yogurt because it has the enzyme in it that is needed to digest it? Is this real? I dont eat anything with milk at all and Im a little nervous to try the yogurt thing? Any knowledge on this ;)

Thanks in advance!

Answers:
Theoretically ,your friend is right.
First, the culturing process itself breaks the lactose into two simple form of sugars;glucose and galactose.Hence, there will not be a problem with the absorption.
Secondly, the live active cultures create the enzyme Lactase within the yogurt and while culturing, there is an another enzyme called beta- galactosidase also produced in the yogurt which, make it safer for to consume. If, you read the content of the yogurt, you will know, whether, that contains these enzymes or not. Each manufacturers has different style of processing the yogurt. Therefore, your friend is right.
However, there are individual variation need to be considered.
Hope, it helps,
Regards,
I don't think you should eat regular yougurt. There is Lactose free yogurt now, you could eat that but don't try regular yogurt, you should be nervous about that.
Conditions such as Lactose Intolerant are very different between different people. For me, yogurt doesn't work, but it works for some people i know.

If all you get is a little stomach ache when you drink milk, it's probably worth it to try yogurt. If your stomach can handle it, yogurt would become a nice healthy snack for u.
First you should find out if you are allergic to the milk or the milk enzymes. If it's the milk then you can still eat the yogurt sometimes with a Lactaid pill(found at drugstores), and if it's the milk enzymes then you shouldn't have yogurt.
~Hope that helped~
