Dating someone with herpes...?

Question:
I have noticed many people say they would never date or have sex with someone who has herpes, even genital hsv1.

I was wondering how many of you who say that get cold sores on your mouths, or have a partner who does.

Answers:
You raise some great points. There ought to be more education around this virus. Only then will the stigma associated with it be eliminated.
just a quick comment: genital herpes are HSV2. The only way you can have genital HSV1 is if the person has a cold sore on their lip and performs oral sex on someone, only then can the person get genital HSV1, but most of the time genital herpes is 2.
by the way about 90% of population have HSV 1 (cold sores) many are just not showing symptoms because of a stronger immune system.
there are many couples that have mixed status, such as HIV discordant couples meaning one has HIV the other doesn't, you just need to be level headed when performing sexual activities, just because your bf or gf has an STD doesn't mean you can't have sex, consult your doctor and ask him/her how to work around your situation.
