Does anyone know about a swelling of the skin and hardness underneath?

Question:
My sister-in-law just called me and I told her I would try to find some answers on the internet. She has a swelling on her left buttock that she said started off as what she thought was a pimple. Now it has spread and it is about the size of a half dollar. It is red and when you touch it, it is hard underneath. It is painful to sit down and it seems to be growing everyday. Does anyone know what this could be? She described the initial pains as an underground pimple that you would get on your face. Does she need to go see a doctor? Thanks.

Answers:
It's either a cyst or a risen. (that's what old people in the south call them) Going to the doc would be a good idea. She might need antibiotics. Back in the day, they would squeeze the risen until all of the pus came out. It would take like 4 people to hold the person down. Ouch!! Ha, ha!! Oh, don't rule out the possibility of it being a bug bite.
I don't know what it is but, since it's getting larger, your sister-in-law should certainly go and get it checked out by her doctor.
Sounds like hemorroids. she can try over-the-counter stuff (can't think of the name off hand, starts with a "p") and if it doesn't go away in a couple of days, then go see a doctor.
This could be a risen a.k.a boil.. If u apply heat to it, it will burst. You can lay on a hot water bag or sit in a very hot bath. There is also a boil cream that you can get from the pharmacy to apply to it. Keep heat applied to it. When it bursts it will drain and it will smell. Once it bursts apply neosporin to it and cover it.. Also u can visit your doctor and they can burst it for you.
