Sorry to here about your mother. Unfortunately, there is not much that can be done. Once the brain has been damaged- whether it was from a brain bleed, or an ischemic attack, the part that was affected will not improve because that area of the brain is dead. One thing that can be done is physical therapy. Another is that if the stroke was ischemic (lack of oxygen) , they can put her on blood thinners to reduce the chance of having another stroke. Blood pressure meds may be given to reduce her blood pressure
awe, im so sorry to hear about your mom in law. Yes really they should maybe do some surgery that will release pressure off of her brain.
i don't know her treatment plan so i cant say, sorry
hard to give you anything. it depends on what kind of stroke it is (infarct or bleed or cardioembolic), the extent of the stroke, how symptomatic she is (is she awake, ambulatory, or comatose).
the general management involves giving oxygen, reduction of swelling of the brain, controlling the resulting hypertension, supporting her with IV fluids, protecting her stomach from stress gastritis, bed rest, nutritional support, stool softeners and fibers to prevent constipation, plus or minus antiplatelet medication
hope she gets well
