Can skin die if you do not wash your skin.?

Question:
my mom has dementia and my dad said she has not taken a bath in weeks so i gave her a shower and notice that she had a few black spots on her which a thought was dirt. I read books on dementia but nothing about the skin if you do not wash it.

Answers:
Well, yes and no. Your skin is the largest organ on our bodies and it does need to breath. In other words, if there is a whole lot of dirt on the skin then it can't breath. The same goes if we lay or sit on one spot or our skin for a while. You will get a bed sore and that can become infected and that is what finally killed Christopher Reeves. I work at a wound care center so I have seen it all. Get her a good home health agency to come and help with her care so she can not only have her health but her dignity. This will give you and your Daddy peace of mind also. Most insurances do pay for this care. Good Luck and God bless.
skin doesnt die from not washing it. it can however get infected. blacks spots could be anything from dirt to infection
skin IS dead it's dead cells
Oh, your poor mother. She needs fulltime help if your father isnt helping her. She probably has some sort of a skin infection or bed sores. Take her to the Dr... as far as your question, I'm not sure if it technically dies, but I suppose anythings possible.
