Anyone have any info on a heart catheter piic line for meds?

Question:
My mom just got out of the hospital, she has congestive heart failure and her legs got swollen and got a cellulitois thembitits infection. They doctors and nurses at the hospital have not told me much, even though she lives with me now, they just did this and said I have to bring her in every day at 6 pm for 10 days for meds through this piic line.
My mom is 81 and very skinny, her heart was fine til she got pnemonia 2 winters ago, then she wound up with congestive heart failure.
Anyone have any good info and prognosis?
What are complications of a piic line and what should I watch for?

Answers:
This is a PICC line (Peripherally inserted central catheter), used for antibiotics, iv fluids, etc after you leave the hospital. There is a great amount of info on the Medscape website.
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/5089... There is a link at the left for complications.

Also, if you can help your Mom watch her diet - salt intake, etc., it will help keep the fluid down without a lot of extra diuretics. Get with her nutritionist to see if there is a way to help her via diet as well as medication. Good luck, and keep asking questions! You are her best advocate..
I had to wear a PIC line for a month. I was glad to have to have it, not having to get stuck with a needle everyday. I had no side effects from the PIC line at all.

I wish I could help with the rest of the question, but no where qualified to even try.
