What is fibromyalgia?
Question:
Answers:
It's a systemic bodily illness which causes several symptoms: extreme fatigue, feeling sore muscles all over like you have the flu, can cause confused thinking, trouble with concentration. It's like a precursor to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I've found. Can come & go. Brought on by lots of triggers: stress, foods, allergies, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, and other things. Affects mostly women, but some men. No real cure. They usually treat the symptoms.
a syndrome characterised by chronic pain in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding joints, fatigue, and tenderness at specific sites in the body. inflammation is absent, and the cause is unknown.
Fibromyalgia is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the cause is still unknown. Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, the fibrous tissues in the body. Most patients with Fibromyalgia say that they ache all over. Their muscles may feel like they have been pulled or overworked. They often have sleeping disorders related to this aching.
The cause of Fibromyalgia remains elusive, but there are many triggering events thought to precipitate its onset. A few examples would be an infection (a viral or bacterial), an automobile accident or the development of another disorder, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, or Hypothyroidism. These triggering events probably don't cause the condition, but rather, they may awaken an underlying physiological abnormality that's already present in the form of genetic predisposition. Traditional treatments are geared toward improving the quality of sleep, as well as reducing pain.
A neurological disorder that causes wide spread musculoskeletal pain.
It also may cause many other symptoms like IBS. sleep disorders. sleep apnea. ect
It is believed to be due to a abnormal neuro signaling in the Central Nervous System.
IT ALSO MAY BE MORE THEN ONE DISORDER.

Dear Donna!
Fibromyalgia or FM is actually a collection of signs and symptoms (not a disease) that affect several million people in the United States. Most cases of Fibromyalgia are found in Females (90%).
Symptoms include Fatigue, Generalized Muscle Aches, Spasms, Soft-Tissue Swelling, Difficulty Sleeping, Migraine Headaches, Depression, Anxiety, Irritable Bowel, and Memory Trouble.
FM is a troubling problem for both patients and medical professionals because it is not diagnosable with any blood test, x-ray, or neurologic examination. However, the American Academy of Rheumatology has developed criteria for the diagnosis of FM. The criteria include the following:
* Having dispersed pain in the trunk and extremities (arms, hands, legs, feet) for at least 3 months and
* Having at least 11 of 18 specific tender points detected by physical examination.
So this is a Symptomatic Trauma which has a lot to do with... Hope you have enough information on the question...
