Public perception of oncologists?
what does the public think about when they hear the name: oncologist? are oncologists mean people or great people? oncologists are doctors that treat cancer just for your information.

My son is being seen by a pediatric oncologist. She saved my sons life and so there are absolutely no real words to describe how I feel.
When we first met, my son had multiple tumors some as large as volley balls within the abdominal cavity. He had malignant ascites with 40 pounds of fluid which resulted in three pulmonary embolisms. He was hospitalized in critical condition. She diagnosed my son within the first week in the hospital and had him in treatment the same week. She has stayed one step ahead of the cancer all the way, networked with other pediatric oncologists, called nationwide for information on his rare disease, contacted a distant university to try an experimental treatment (which worked), and has been tireless in her commitment to my family and son. She has compassion, intelligence, and a genuine interest in helping my son travel this rocky road. We all know that there are no guarantees. She frequently asks how we feel about treatment, whether to continue, or change directions. She knows that I do a great deal of research and is open to any and all suggestions.
I must admit though, that during the first month in the hospital that every time I saw her come into his room I felt terrified. Because the news she delivered was always so horrible. She is a very honest oncologist and believes in telling parents and her young patients exactly what is happening to them. I do not know how she does it . . always so calm, and so compassionate, and so brutally honest.
She works with a team of pediatric oncologist which includes a social worker, 5 colleagues, radiologists, surgeons, nurses, and nurse practitioners. They are all excellent, friendly, and professional. They are dedicated to their patients and making sure that they have quality of life as well as the best chances possible to get rid of the cancer for good.
I think.......oncologist.....my lifesaver !!......
God bless my oncologist! But I think they have the hardest job in medicine.

I worked in Oncology and have the utmost respect and admiration for this very difficult, very frustrating, very exhausting and very rewarding specialty and for those courageous, compassionate doctors who enter into it. While there is more than one type of oncologist, medical oncologists are the first line of defense. They are, by and large, some of the most wonderful people I've ever had the privilege to know and work with.

We have a tough job treating patients and facing relatives with death a daily thing we face.
I think they are a critical part of a team of wonderful Dr.'s that help many with series of cancers. Hopefully, saving lives or adding/extending quality of life depending on the cancer & the stage. What a commendable job to all in the cancer field.
Oncologists save lives. Everyone I have EVER met has been great!
Its fairly new to the medicine world but mine saved my life they do the drug threapy uroloigist are surgens. They also work together at least mine did. They are the best they all want to work to save lifes ya cant ask for more than that. I was stage 3 and after 21/2 years i won my battle. But everyone doesnt but dont blame them they didnt give the cancer to anyone, and all they can do is try to help. A prayer doesnt hurt either

They have a tough job. People are not thrilled to be seeing them..people who see them are afraid of facing a serious illness that they always thought happened to "other people", afraid of facing their own mortality, afraid of possible side effects of treatments, afraid of constant needle sticks, afraid of the bills and problems with being off from work, etc.....oncologists see people who are depressed and afraid oftentimes...it must be a heavy burden for them... they can't get overly attached to their patients or it would take an even heavier toll on them...I am sure people often take out their problems on their oncologists, who are dealing with this stuff along with their own personal problems at home and business problems with running an office and collecting money from the insurance companies....

My onocologists have been intelligent, thoughtful, caring indivduals. So, I think they are great people!
I am in recovery from breast cancer . Basically my oncologist told me after 2 years to return & have chemo immediately I said No & dumped as my doctor. I have another Dr now who kows this guy. I don't know what the future holds but I won't do chemo without symptoms
I went to an oncologist for my breast cancer, to get on tamoxifen, he told me not to come back because the tamoxifen will take care of my condition, and my gyn can refill my meds. I have stage 0 and atypical hyperplasia. I think he is a real jerk. I am going to another oncologist.

I think an oncologist is a hero- someone who devotes their lives to curing and improving the quality of life for cancer patients. I think oncologists need some more recognition- they save so many lives. I think it is a profession that the medical industry is in dire need of. Although I do agree that it solely depends on the experience: I guess some oncologists can be very bitter. My aunt's grandmother had a terrible experience with one (told her something that was totally out of line in respect to her recovery. She even went as far as switchin her oncologist).
What are the dangers of having low blood pressure?
Life savers, well atleast my daughter is still alive thanks to her oncoligist.
I imagine it be a very tough job, especially when nothing more can be done.
