After open heart surgery, what is the least amount of days expected to spend in a hospital?
Question:
Answers:
That can vary.
It depends on the extent of the surgery, whether or not complications developed, the hospital's policy and your insurance company's policy.
There are often set amounts of days for certain surgical procedures that insurance companies will allow.
I believe the average 4-7 days.

Just around a week or so. I think it all depends on your age.
your question is specific to you. write down all of your questions and have them answered by your surgeon BEFORE the surgery.
Usually open heart surgey can keep you in the hospital up to 7-10 days, but can vary with how you recover, the kind of surgery, how severe.

It actually depends and varies upon each individual and exactly what procedure is being done, if they break open the breast bone, etc., and so forth. I had open heart surgery in 2003 and had my mitral valve replaced. I was in the hospital for 9 days. I had no complications and things went just fine. My surgeon told me I would have gotten out in 7 days, but they started me on a blood thinner because of the mechanical valve, and they had to get my prothrombin level to a certain point before I could be released. They like all lab work and everything going perfect before being released. So it is hard to pin point an exact number of days. It does depend upon each individual case and person.
Best wishes.
On a uncomplicated surgery at least is 36 hours, but more reasonable is a week because of the testing and regulating of medications. You need to get access to a Milliman Guidelines and then understand how to interpret the length of stay criteria it cites for cardiac surgery similar to the one your friend had. Your friend is still going to need frequent outpatient monitoring for a while and some in home assistance with activities of daily living.
I had my bypass on a Friday, left the following Friday.
I'm a 59 yr. old female that went in for heart catherization. When I woke up, they said angioplasty or stents would not help.-- 2 days later I had open heart triple bypass. I had the surgery on 6/28 this year. I was released from the hospital the 5th day (July 3rd). I was told I did very well--that sometimes patients are in there 7-10 days.
I never said I can't----I got up out of bed and did the respiratory exercises. Blowing into that piece of plastic didn't seem important but it sure kept me from coughing (0ouch!) by keeping my lungs clear.
It's amazing what they can do now. You can be sure you'll be fine if you research to see if you have a great surgeon and a hospital that has a good reputation for heart cases.
