Should my baby not sleep on her left side if she has a heart problem?

Question:
My daughter has VSD and i heard some where that it was bad for anyone to sleep on there left side... is this true... and if so why?

Answers:
Yes, it is absolutely true. Since your heart is located more to the left side of the chest, sleeping on her left side is going to give her heart more pressure and it might increase the chances of heart failure. So it is better for her to sleep facing up(I mean facing to the sky) or even to her right side. But just to be sure, consult with your doctor once again.
I never heard of such and if I was so curious I would consult my child's doctor..
The story about the left side is about nurses or doctors performing digital rectal checks (for constipation) or inserting suppositories on elderly patients with heart conditions (some of which may be undiagnosed). It is called the vagal response of stimulating the vagal nerve which runs from there to the heart. Also some people may have this problem when bearing down to defacate when constipated on the toilet or coughing very long and hard.

Contact the child's pediatric cardiologist for questions specific to your child's condition. No one should sleep on one side all night...it can lead to pressure sores/bedsores.
im no doctor you should ask the doctor,,,,,,,
Dear Ma'am, you have asked a very genuine question, it's of significant importance, even in healthy individuals. We recommend our patients in ICU TO SLEEP ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, because it is easy to inspire and in case of vomiting it's not inspirited. There is no vagal stimulation to increase heart rate, which can be dangerous.
Hope answered your question.
