Will hot foods or drinks burn esophagus?

Question:
If it will, normally how much is the food/drinks temperature, and what will happen to our esophagus? Will this course any disease?

Answers:
I have to disagree w/ the other person who answered...

Just recently I swallowed a chunk of food that was much hotter upon chewing than I realized...pretty much straight off of the stove (I blew on it first...give me some credit here). My mouths natural reaction to rid itself of the heat was to swallow. The hot chunk burnt my throat, and continued to burn my esophagus until I ran like a maniac to find a drink to chug. Now 2 days later I have incredible indigestion and always feel as if I have a huge burp stuck in my throat. I have no idea what is happening internally or if this can cause disease or serious damage, but I'm still alive and able to eat and thats a good sign...although I am going to consult my Doctor if this keeps up for more than 7 days as I do not naturally have indigestion.
I doubt you can swallow a hot enough food/drink to burn your esophagus (you'd probably spit it out or not get it into your mouth).
