Please tell me if hypertension is in any way related with our psyche?

I think it is possible with many illnesses including hyper tension. I know that anxiety and stress can affect the blood pressure, my husband suffers from hypertension and recently he was under a lot of stress and also had to deal with anxiety and depression after we experienced a tragedy in the family and although he'd been on hypertension medication for years that usually kept it normal, and kept to the healthy lifestyle changes he'd made, his blood pressure rose very significantly. In fact when the Doctor noticed the rise he did say that it was probably due to the circumstances, and once he was feeling better in himself and his life got back on to a more even keel it would return to normal, which it did. Of course there are many other things that can raise the blood pressure, alcohol, smoking, salt, being overweight and of course it can also be hereditary. But I do think it's right when it's said that a healthy mind can lead to a healthy body, the two go hand in hand, there are many interesting studies on the web that deal with us, worth a read. I definitely think that that what happens to our psyche can affect our bodily health including hypertension.

The causes of hypertension are not fully understood, some are inheirted, some lifestyle, so why not our psyche.

I used to get regular lectures from the 'older women' in my circle about how my lifesatyle was causing my hypertension but it turned out to be a congenital heart condition. Assume there is a physical cause first, followed by a lifestyle cause, then worry about post modern new age diagnoses. When I am under pressure I tend to smoke and eat more than i should, neither of which helps the issue, but in fact your blood pressure is largely controlled by the kidneys.
Hit the old beta blockers - these not only lower your blood pressure, but also make you a lot calmer anyway, they cost a penny a bucket and they are good at stoppiing you make an idiot of yourself in front of young women - which will be a relief to all concerned.
