In the morning today i saw a muffin with nibbling marks ..i assume its a rat...please help..need to stay away?

I would suggest cleaning up the environment and not leaving food in the open. A fridge sounds safest.
Go buy a large trap, they have them at hardware stores and probably walmart too. If you don't have the heart to kill it, get one of those live traps at the same place and put some bait in it, at least you know what it likes to eat. Then once its in there, it can't get out, you can take the entire trap with rat to another area and release it (you won't have to touch the rat)
Nothing kills a mouse or rat better than some poison...but is the rat allergic to your muffin ?
