Can white coat syndrome raise your blood pressure alot?

Question:
so I was at the doctor the other day and he wanted to take my blood pressure, I didnt want him to but finally let him because I have a fear or my blood pressure being high, anyways it turned out to be 200/100! I have had a fear of getting my blood pressure taken now for years, I get very nervous.just as nervous as doing a public speech or something like that. Anyways im getting a 24 hour monitor to see what it is when im not nervous, but how much can stress raise ones blood pressure.and nerves? Thanks

Answers:
Nerves and stress raise it a lot. If you take your pulse at your neck while chilling and watching TV and then take it when you get a fright or are having road rage or some other stressful situation you will notice a massive difference. Try not to be afraid of doctors, they are there to help you. Better to find out that there is something wrong with you and deal with it than to suddenly drop dead from something that was avoidable.
I have the same malady, have them go outside the office and take it.
Works for me.
I was 150/100 at an appointment a few years ago. I am always about 110/70, but the doc thought it might have been WCS. It was my first visit to her, I think.

Good luck!
Yes, it can.

Relax man, keep as cool as you can.
They've miles of files ...

Listen to some Moody Blues. Mellow. Its good for the heart.

Why be nervous ? Reading the numbers is like listening to raindrops when they are barely there. I take mine a few times a day. Part of the reason you are anxious is that it is already high. That's really bad for the arteries and other internal organs.
Yes, that is why it has been given a name. White Coat Syndrome is a true occurrence.People,in just knowing that they are seeing their Doc, especially for high blood pressure, will have an increase. The body reacts to this fear therefore, raising their blood pressure. It's best to not think about it and try to relax.Yeah, easier said than done. The power of positive thinking can do wonders!!
