What type care should I seek for my 87 yr old mother who has very bad back pain.?

Question:
My mother has been experiencing very bad back pain and her Dr. will not prescribe any pain medication as she is taking the drug coumadin. Dr says it is arthritis but not severe enough to see a specialist and he has not recommeded that I take my mom to a chirpopractor. Her back pain has prevented her from leaving the house and she is now depressed. She is also taking lasix and has lost too much weight and she is very weak. Dr stopped the lasix. PLEASE OFFER SOME SUGGESTIONS.

Answers:
I suffer from chronic back pain along with other problems from multiple medical conditions. I am very disheartened that your mother is not getting proper medical care. I would highly suggest you take her to see another doctor. She needs to be seen by a specialist and needs to be given proper pain relief. There are medications out there that do not interact with Cumadin. So please, I beg you, get her to another doctor for a second opinion. There is nothing wrong with doing that. And her health must come first. It is unacceptable to be in that much pain, to not even be able to get out of the house, and not being given proper relief. I sincerely hope you get her to a specialist right away. I hope she feels better soon.
Buy your mom some fresh cherries ... enough for her to eat a 'full cup' (whole, with seeds) twice a day. I know it sounds weird, but I tried it after seeing it in an answer here for a 'natural relief' for arthritis pain ... and it WORKS. I was on Vicodin for pain, but must NOT take it right now, due to bad gall bladder disease (suspected) ... but I bought the cherries and now eat up to two cups (in one cup 'doses) a day ... my pain is greatly reduced, I can walk outside just fine ... and since 'fresh cherries' are such a treat, you mom may actually 'cheer up' being given 'cherries' AND getting relief from her back pain! My husband takes Coumadin, and he has to take ONLY 'acetominophen' which doesn't 'help' arthritis pain that much ... but you can also try that (make SURE she gets LESS than 3500 mg every day, though, because it can cause 'liver failure') ... but I really do now 'advertise' the 'fresh cherries' to stop arthritis pain and 'crippling' and it works.
I have another suggestion, too, though ... evidently your mother's doctor thinks of her as 'not counting' much because of her 'advanced age' ... and that is just plain WRONG! Your mother has as much 'right' to proper care and a doctor who 'listens' and doesn't 'minimize' a problem just because the patient is 'too old' ... FIND YOUR MOM A GOOD NEW DOCTOR who will treat her with ther 'respect' she deserves, and who will 'help her get rid of her pain' and not just expect her to 'live with it' for any reason. And make sure that your mom gets 'enough good food' so she can gain back some of that 'lost weight' ... she'll feel much better and be less weak. The cherries should 'help' there, too.
Dr.'s hate chiropractors because they are cheaper and more effective then Dr's. Chiros are not even allowed to enter a hospital even if a patient requests them. I was told not to see one for a "bruised tail bone" years ago, she said it would make my back wors...well 2 weeks later I could not walk and went, the chiro said my nerves were pinched so bad they would have severed and I would of had no feeling from my waist down...she fixed my, my chiro and today I have very little pain...it was much more sevre then the docotr cared and I trust chiros for alot. Get an oppinion from one, it may cost you 30 bucks, but your mom will be better off if it works.
