Muscle pain can occur with statins. A very rare complication is rapid severe muscle breakdown and severe cramping pains and you'd feel ill with it. You need to see your GP or Practice Nurse to discuss this - they will want to do a blood test to check the liver and creatine kinase (enzyme released by damaged muscle) . The muscle wastage may be another cause - nutrition, lack of activity or neurological problem. A formal opinion would be recommended.
I was on statins, they made me constipated and I dont take them anymore and I'm fine, I researched them abit, googling, they do cause muscle wastage, chat with your dr
good luck
discuss your symptoms with the doctor who is prescribing the meds.
hi are you diabetic? Very high blood sugars can also cause this,it does get better but can take a long time.
I suggest you have a chat with your doc he/she should be able to help.
I have been taking 40mg for years and I haven't noticed any muscle wastage, but walking is one of my hobbies so that may make a difference.
Try doing more exercise and also talk to you doctor.
I am on 20mgs of simvastatin and have been for over a year, and I have not got any problems. That said, muscle wastage can be a problem which is why you should never eat grapefuit (or drink the juice) as it speeds the process. Go back to your doctor as there are alternative to statins.
It has been shown that statin drugs can cause muscle wasteing and weakness. They have also done studies with patients using tatins and Co Enzyme Q10. It is a supplement available otc. Co Enzyme Q10 helps slow the weakness and wasteing. Ask your Dr. about different statins and about Co Enzyme. If he doesnt know about co enzyme ask him to check into it. It is regularily prescribed to heart patients and those with muscle disorders.
