Anybody know? Will I gain weight after Radioiodine I-131 treatment for my Hyperthyroid?

Question:

Answers:
Statistically, yes. I'm sure your doctor didn't tell you this, but the goal of the radiation treatment is to give you another disease - hypothyroidism. And most doctors won't treat the hypothyroidism they inflict upon you properly. They just let you be hypothyroid and tell you any problems you are having couldn't possibly be related to your thyroid. Especially weight gain. And statistically, the majority of people with untreated hypothyroidism gain weight.

And you really need to change your thinking here. Weight gain is the least of your worries if you are hypothyroid. There are many other problems and symptoms that come from being hypothyroid, and some of them can kill you. Gaining a few pounds will not kill you. How do you feel about your heart muscle dissolving away due to retention of potassium?
I didn't. I actually lost weight but it really wasn't due to the treatment. I purposefully changed my lifestyle to become healthier. After cancer, you do what you can. I do agree with the one of the previous posters, be prepared to gain weight. Eat sensibly and exercise. Good luck.
