My father in law has been sick...?

Question:
swelling stomach, vomiting, constipation, loss of apetite, nausea. My father in law has been sick for awhile now. We all thought it was stress but his stomach is as hard as a rock, he can't eat and he can't go #2. He just recently has been vomiting and he hasn't been able to sleep. I need help with ideas of what it may be. He WON'T go to the doctor and we need to convince him with something. Also his symptoms don't sound like an ulcer which is what we thought it was...
