If you're going to play the stats game you should remember that statistics are only numbers and it's only when placed in the context of other statistics that you can even hope to see a fraction of the big picture. And the big picture here is that STD's are a problem that concerns *everyone*.

Statistics don't really mean anything without being put into context.
Add.: You shouldn't just accept statistics if you know nothing about how they were collected. Was it medical records? Survey? Who did they get the statistics from? Was it a representative sample? As in, did they gather the data from blacks around the nation? Did they focus on a particular area? If you know nothing about how the statistic is determined, it's best not to blindly accept it. Statistics can be skewed by having too focused on an interview group, also, statistics are often made up on the spot.

Doesnt matter which race it is, who cares. 1 in 5 is a big number. You sit at dinner in a family of 5, 1 of you can has it...stats are horrible out of context.

In Australia, direct to public prescription drug advertising is illegal, although drug companies try to get around this by sponsoring "public health awareness mesages". These often make the hair on my back stand on end, because they present health viewpoints designed to increase sales but obscure that intent. They are drug advertising, no two ways about it.
But racially directed advertising of drugs - that leaves me gobsmacked.
Genital herpes infections are incredibly common. In most cases they go unnoticed, and only a tiny proportion are severe enough to require drug treatment. In any case drug treatment is only palliative - it doesn't cure.
There's a probably a small number of people with genital herpes whose condition warrants treatment but as yet they haven't sought it. At the same time the drug companies have a lot to gain by convincing people who have only minimal benefit to gain from medication to consume what is quite an expensive product.
I don't like it, for a variety of reasons. And the racial overtones smell particualrly exploitative given the unwarranted stigma HSV carries.
Wow, it's staggering, look at the statistics for all the STD's for the United States. This is through the CDC, everything gets reported when anything comes back positive at any doctors office.

i think it's wrong to point out blacks in general, they're not the only ones that have STDs and HIV, statistics aren't always correct, in fact they're almost never correct, they're always over exaggerated, such as the HIV statistic, why do some sites say 900,000 why do some sites say 1.2 million? well if you read closely, they include an additional 25% of people that aren't diagnosed, 25%!! that's alot of people, they shoot out these numbers that aren't real, look what happened in India, they estimated 6 million people at first, but then they decided to ACTUALLY COUNT, they ended up with 2-3 million, they were off by over 50%, so can you tell me you can really trust statistics? statistics to me are B.S.
