What's the matter with my left big toenail?

Question:
2/3 of it looks normal, the rest is dull yellow with all sorts of strange ridges. It's been like this for a while, and doesn't hurt. Should I be worried? Serious answers only pls.

Answers:
Yes, it definitely sounds like you have a fungus of the nail. I went to my derm after OTC products didn't work. She gave me an RX cream and told me to soak it in 50% water 50% vinegar. The nail started to grow out normally but the ridged area was very thick, almost like stair steps. Sound like yours? My derm said I was going to have to go to a podiatrist to get the ridges pared down and to make my nail bed thinner so the meds/ vinegar could work. He said even the oral Lamisil won't cure it. He said the only 100% cure was to do a chemical burn, destroying the nail bed on each side of the nail. The skin eventually grows up to remaining bed. leaving a flat nail bed and no more fungus- ever. I opted for the paring down there, with a Dremel-like thing and the vinegar. The yellow part of nail is yellow because it is not attached to nail bed- he cut all of that back, so I had about half a nail left. Looked very odd but you must get that cut back so that the new nail isn't infected when it tries to grow out. Yes, it hurts but they will numb you if you want. That is where moisture hides so it is a never ending battle against the fungus if you don't. Don't use the same clippers or file on your other toes or share w/ anyone without disinfecting them. I got mine from a lousy Asian salon that did not use proper cleaning techniques. Also, it will likely get more yellow, the paring down takes all of the away, along w/ the ridges. You will have healthy nail at the cuticle often, as helthy nail will try to grow out but rarely does until you get meds to the bacteria under the nail. Mine are really looking good, only time will tell if I have to do the chenmical burn. Also if the 2/3 that looks normal is at the cuticle, having 1/3 at the end cut back sounds like a breeze, them a podiatrist can just file the ridges. There's noth instant about getting a good looking nail once you get it, but this was the quickest I found. My family doc just wanted to RX a cream. Both derm and podiatrist said that never works. I tried that alone for a long time and found they were right.
It sounds like a fungal foot infection, go and by some of the powder to cure it at the pharmacy and soon the nail will grow out normally.
its sounds like you have an infection try bathing it in warm salt water this might help if not then go to the pharmacy and get some cream or see your gp. salt water usally helps clear infection
Hi,
If you go to your doctor, they will take a clipping of your toenail, send it off for tests to find out what is wrong with it.
Then they can treat it with the correct cream.
I DONT THINK IT IS ANYTHING SERIOUS SEE A CHIROPODIST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.
its athletes foot a fungus
you should get a spray from the chemist and apply it before it spreads to other toe nails
Two probable diagnosis are:Fungal infection and the previous trauma to the nail bed.you need direct exam by a physicion and examination of the your nail debris for fungus. In the case of negative result and if there is previous history of trauma, the changes is permanent and dose not need any treatment.
If you are not aware of having dropped something on your toe, it is definitely a fungus infection and over the counter remedies will not clear it. It is infectious and if you share your shower with others they might get infected too. It might also spread to other toenails through your shoes. Go to your doctor who will prescribe a solution that you will have to apply regularly. It will prevent the infection from continuing spreading to the new nail growth. Eventually the yellow part will come off easily, but it is a long process.
bacteria
It's a fungal infection under your toe nail. Go to see GP and get something specific before it spreads. I left mine, still haven't been, and it has spread to other toes. I'm embarrassed about showing my foot now - the other foot is lovely and no problem at all. I should follow my own advice.
