Swollen Stomach?

Question:
I am 19 and my stomach is so swollen its like im 6 months pregnant although i am def not pregnant. My mum and other people have commented and said it looks as if im pregnant but im not exactly big im a size 10- its just my stomach thats swollen! I also feel quite sick alot and have the urge to go to the toilet alot- although this may be nerves. Sometimes i can go to the toilet (bowel) 4/5 times a day! I get quite alot of cramps in my stomach too! Any idea what this could be? I dont really want to go to the doctors as i am quite anxious and nervous and they will probably just says its this. I know the difference between feeling sick and having butterflies.

Just really weird because my mum had to get 2/3 of her bowel removed due to bowel cancer and polyps running in the family. I havnt been tested for the gene yet i have to wait until im 21.

I dont think its anything to do with this as there is no blood or anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Answers:
it sounds like IBS, you should see your doctor
This may be irritable bowel syndrome, usually brought on by stress. You should go and see your doctor, there are things that can help you.
it could be worms in your stomach, they are getting bigger and bigger and are probably the size of snakes, eventually they will try and escape from your mouth.
Its best to drink a glass of cold milk, this usually slows them down, then eat a curry, the extra stomach acid will kill the things

good luck
why are you aking this question, you no the answer already, make an appointment with your doctor, worrying is not going to help is it. the sooner you go, the sooner your mind is put at rest, make an appointment,,
Given your family history, this could be serious, so don't take chances. Go see a gastroenterologist as soon as possible.

The pain, cramping and diarrhea as well as the bloating (swelling) suggest bacterial overgrowth. Are you passing a lot of gas? If so, this is a hallmark. This could be caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or could be related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or celiac disease. Your doctor will have to do tests to make the call.

Meanwhile, start recording what you eat and your activities as well as your symptoms. If you notice any relation between your diet and symptoms, eliminate some foods to see if the situation improves. For example, if this is intestinal bacterial overgrowth, eliminating readily fermented foods will help. This includes anything sugary or starchy like sweets or breads, pastas, etc. If this is celiac disease, eliminating anything containing wheat or barley should help.

Bottom line: take good notes and schedule an appointment with a gastroenterologist. He or she will be able to help you find the answer.
