Social Security Disability?

Question:
I am trying to decide if it's a good idea for me to apply for disability. I have Chronic Ulcerative Colitis for 15 years and it is really tearing me down. I work full time now but it's killing me, seriously! Any ideas on how to apply with having been working full time all year. Should I wait until Jan. 2008? I know you cant be working alot, but I have to pay my bills. Please help.

The Social Security disability insurance program pays benefits to you and certain family members if you worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes.

Disability is a subject you may read about in the newspaper, but not think of as something that might actually happen to you. But your chances of becoming disabled are probably greater than you realize.

While we spend a great deal of time working to succeed in our jobs and careers, few of us think about ensuring that we have a safety net to fall back on should we become disabled. This is an area where Social Security can provide valuable help to you.

This disability planner will explain the benefits available, how you can qualify, and who can receive benefits on your earnings record. It will also explain how to apply for the benefits and what happens when your application is approved.

The Link below will let you know the Programs that are available to you, and if you are eligible for them. Good luck.

Go to the website for the Social Security Administration - http://www.ssa.gov and check out the Benefits Information. You can see if your condition is eligible to begin with. There is a Benefit Eligibilty Screening Tool (BEST) link on the home page (lower right hand side). Go to it. It's recommended that you apply on the first day you become disabled.
you have to do what yiu need to, some have to live or depend on others while they are waiting for a reponse. Ask your gi doctor what he thinks and he may help you. get a disability attorney and a free consultation!!
