Does anyone know exactly WHAT a nervous breakdown actually is?

Question:
What is the treatment for it? I know people go in the hospital for it.

Answers:
when you have a nervous breakdown you completely lose your mind! i had one when i was 19 you feel like everything is falling apart you cant breath you cant think clearly i cried alot and couldnt calm down mine lasted about 5 hours i actually tried to run my ex off the road. you just cant think clearly you snap all of a sudden. your heart races. nothing seems to calm you down after awhile it stopped and i had the worst headache on earth and my parents hid all of the tylenol and knifes because they were afraid i would hurt myself. but i never felt like killing myself i just lost my mind and couldnt control my emotions or my actions. mine was brought on by stress. so treatment would probably be to keep yourself calm by relieving stress often and maybe medication for coping with stress. but once you have it i would suggest going to the ER. They could give you medication to relax you. i didnt go to the ER but i turned out ok. when i woke up the next day it was like my life started completely over i was relaxed and relieved felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulder.
Some biological causes for nervous breakdown:

Nervous break down may occur due to inappropriate emotional responses while living in society. Unable to cope with the social life and not developing the right responses to social pressure may lead to nervous breakdown.

Lack of sleep, disturbances in the sleeping pattern and frequent changes in sleeping habits may also lead to nervous breakdown.

Nervous breakdown may be result of some drugs or medicines that provoke the stimulation of the brain cells and lead to an increase or decrease in the hormonal discharge which may cause problems.
Nervous break down is basically an anxiety attack. There could be a rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, high blood pressure. Too much could cause complications. Treatment is learning to calm the mind down like a massage, bubble bath etc. or medications.
Someone I care very much for had one a few years back, and they medicated her and she stayed in a mental hospital for a little while. Each person is different, but in the case of the person I knew, they were acting way out of character, spending tons of money, swearing, not concerning themselves with other's feelings. It is really scary and it sucks. But know that my person got through it fine, and they are back to themselves!
a sudden mental breakdown is suddenly getting a mental illness like anxiety, depression, psychosis, severe stress and a few more that i cant remember. one of my friends had one in class this year. drugs can cause mental breakdowns. my friend was really into pills, drinking, weed and trying every drug that was in front of him. he also didnt sleep a lot because he was always up all night partying. when you have a mental breakdown you need to go to a mental hospital for a few days or weeks and they release you when they think you are fine but they usually prescribe some drugs. the drugs they prescribe are to cure the cause of the mental breakdown. for example if severe anxiety caused your mental breakdown then they would prescribe something for that and maybe some counseling too.
