Alcoholism?
Question:
how do you get someone admited to rehab if they dont want to?
Answers:
YOU don't
The only person to decide if they are an alcoholic is themself.
Alcohalism is like a disease.
If they are an alcohaolic they need to first recognize this them self.
until this happens, no progress can be made, and no-one can tell them, they will need to realize it on there own.
The Best Suggestion I can make for you is to go to an Al-anon meeting. This is a place for people to learn about alcohalism in there friends/family and appriate ways to cope and deal with it. It is simmalar to Alcohalics Anonnomous(AA). You can go even if you also go to AA, as well.
Don't make threats like "if you don't stop drinking I'll..."
because remember that Alcohalism is a serious illness and that you need to be supportive.
Just as you wouldn't tell a cancer patient,"If You don't stop getting tumors I'll..."
Good luck
YOU cannot. They have to want to do it themselves. Sorry.
You don't.
Contact Alanon and go to a meeting. They can help you and answer your questions.
He has to want it himself. You can't control what another person does or how he acts - you can only control how you react to it. The best thing I ever read about this kind of situation was a book/tape by name of "Codependent No More".
If he really wants to leave it alone but can't, Be aware that some doctors feel there is a connection betweel allergy and addiction. In "An Alternative Approach to Allergies" by Theron Randolph, MD, there is a part about a Dr.Carlton lee who says "there is a thin line between allergy and addiction." You eat something you're allergic to (in my case, fish), and the withdrawal symptoms (headache) that occur the next day can be cured by a tiny amount of what you're withdrawing from. (I read this two days after it happened!)
He treated alcoholics with this, and after some trial and error, found that the equivalent of approx. a tablespoonful of a mixture of the favorite liquor mixed into a quart of water would stop the craving for a man who "had" to have his first scotch by 10 a.m. Said it cost a lot less money, too.
But the problem also is that, say the person leaves the liquor alone that is made from corn, but then eats corn bread or corn flakes, etc, and later feels bad, doesn't know why, just knows he'll feel better if he gets the corn fix from the alcohol because the alcohol will distribute it into his system faster than more cornbread. Fascinating reading. See if you can find the book!
you cant you need to go to a Alonan meeting
