Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, no appetite, back pain -19 years old, female...what is this?

Question:
I have scoliosis and have had a lot of upper back pain since I started working a few weeks ago. I haven't seen my x-rays to know what exactly is going on (scoliosis doesn't normally cause back pain)...this may have nothing to do with what's been going on, but I figured I'd mention it. Since last night I have been nauseous, with no appetite, today I had diarrhea, I feel very fatigued after a good night's sleep, dizzy, and I may have a low-grade fever as well (I don't have access to a thermometer but I feel feverish). I have had shooting pains in my lower abdomen last night and this morning, but they are not present right now. The only way for me to see a doctor is to go to the emergency room - I am on a college campus with no doctor, and my insurance will only be taken at the hospital if I go through the ER. Should I just wait it out, or get checked out? Thanks.

Answers:
GO TO THE ER! it could be LOTS of things - gallbladder, appendix, or 1000 other things. better safe than sorry, get your a** to the doctor now! if your appendix ruptures you could be in world of sh*t!
go to the ER
it might be ur gallbladder
If your in pain Go to the er.

What can you lose by going to the er? Except pain?
Sounds like Pyelonephritis.

Where on your back does it hurt? I know you said it shoots down to your lower abdomen, where does the pain end (relative to your belly button?). Also, does the pain wrap around and follow your sides to your abdomen?

You could also have a UTI, which is a bladder infection that does not involve the kidney (therefore, not pyelo).

Fever indicates infection. Perhaps you have colitis... Gallbladder, appendicitis... Its hard to say unless I'm doing the exam on you.

I would say go to the ER. You don't want this to get worse - especially with the symptoms you're having. Chances are it is something I just said.

Regards,
Ryan

PS - how old are you?
What??? Scoliosis does not normally cause back pain. Then you need to come by my office on a busy day and see how many people I treat becuase of spinal curvature.

Spinal curvature or spinal misalignment is a major cause of back pain!!!

Second of all, pressure, stress, etc. will and cause the nerves to malfunction. If this nerve malfunctions, then the organ, cell or tissue that it innervates cannot function correctly. So, if you scoliosis is putting pressure on nerves that go to you abdomen, then thos abdominal organs cannot work correctly.

Anyway, just wait it out.most likely nothing or something that you ate. Second of all, if it gets worse or continues seek medical attention.

Also, get your back adjusted so that you can get those nerves working correctly.
Sounds like you may just have a virus, If you feel uncomfortable waiting, go to the ER...but I'd wait 3 days or so and see if it goes away. Take some Pepto and relax for a while. Eat light, maybe some soup or jello and take lots of fluids. If it continues it may be kidney stones, your gallbladder, Kidney infection...it could be a number of things. I hope you feel better soon!
