If you smoke have you been finding rules and regulations going to far?

Question:
like who wants to go out any more even to a doctor or hospital and is it not time the smokers start getting their rights back my grandparents lived for old ages and they smoked every day and going out side is not enough you go to the hospitals for help and they send you 2-3 blocks away to smoke enough is enough do you not think?

Answers:
Yes, I do agree! I do not smoke but my husband does. I wish he would stop for health reasons yes, but smokers have rights too. It is a persons choice whether to smoke or not, and it is not right for others to tell them they can not and when or where they can smoke. Just this week at my husbands workplace, they took away their smoking privileges for 3 days because some idiot threw his cig butts in the new mulch and not in the container. He can not even smoke in his car in the parking lot. They may even make this a permanent thing! I think this is wrong! I do not like the smell of coffee, it makes me really sick, but do I have the right to make others stop drinking it because I don't like it or because it makes me ill, NO! And People who wear a whole bottle of perfume and go out in public! This makes me have a terrible headache and nausea, but do I have the right to make them stop, NO! I could go on and on! If they are going to pick on one thing then lets get them all. We should not just single out the smokers and penalize them!
I smoke and I understand both sides. Yes I think if your outdoors.whats the problem? I can understand resterants.but bars...come on..everyone smokes at the bar! They do take it to far.
I smoke...but...I don't mind having to be away from others...they don't choose to smell the smoke...I don't want my kids breathing it in.

(I agree bars should have smoking)
I do not smoke anymore, and my take on it is that privately owned businesses should be able to make their own decisions on whether to have smoking or not. The government can do whatever they like with their properties, but leave the private business owners to regulate smoking on their own. If I frequent a business, it is my decision to go there or not go there if I want to be around smoke. I am not agreeing that smoke is not harmful (our cigarettes have a lot more chemical additives than our grandparents did, not to mention the tar and carcinogens), I quit because I was planning a pregnancy and now do not want to expose my daughter to it ( it is proven that second hand smoke increases childhood asthma, respiratory ailments and bronchial issues that can last a lifetime) and my daughter is way more important than ciggies. However, when I am not with my daughter (thank goodness for an occasional night out), I am fine being around smoke and may even indulge once or twice a year.

years ago when our grandparents smoked there was just tobacco in their cigarettes. Now they add chemicals, sugar, and even put on fiber filters. I have a feeling that the fibers get into our lungs. And the chemicals and sugars are there to help us to keep being addicted..
I quit 10 years ago, and I gotta tell ya, I wish I had the rules there are now.. I would have gotten frustrated and quit alot sooner.. I agree y'all have rights, but as I change my oxygen tanks during every day to keep me breathing... I don't feel alot of the rules are so bad..
Hope you stay healthy..Don't trade places with what I am living with, it's not worth it.

It's definitely been overdone. I live in an area that smoker's couldn't begin to pollute as bad as industry. Yet the town went non-smoking to kiss the b@@t of the CEO of the hospital. They're even talking about making the park non-smoking to keep him happy. The only good to come from it is you don't have to wait to get a table in the nicer restaurants. But some have lost their jobs and the local Shoneys looks closed it's so dead.

Thank God the county went "moist". Now nicer restaurants will come in and you can still smoke in the county. They'll be packed as I live in eastern Ky. the heart of the tobacco industry and we're close to Ohio (non-smoking state) and Huntington, W.V. (also non-smoking). So any restaurant locating there will have a gold mine.

I'm trying to quit because I'm tired of paying so much taxes for the government to waste. But I'll never believe banning it is right. Life has risks as does freedom. I have a extreme sensitivity to most perfumes. I get dizzy, sick, taste it in my mouth, vomit, etc. But I'd never dream of telling someone they can't wear perfume. According to Lloyd vs Tanner a business doesn't become public just because it invites the public in. So why should a business be forced to go non-smoking? They've made allowances for non-smokers and it's not like non-smokers have no other options. If the city cares for the health of it's citizens as they claim why aren't private clubs forced to ban smokers? Are the wealthy not cared about by the citizens? Sounds more like Prohibition to me where a few (Rockefeller, Kennedy, etc.) made their fortunes off the back of the poor slob who just wanted a beer to relax. Only difference is now it's the government profitting while the non-smoking clueless are used as pawns and scapegoats.

Freddy the Freeloader (Red Skelton) used to say my rights end where another's begin. Even as a smoker I complained when other smokers didn't consider those around them. Yet I'm treated as a leper by militant non-smokers. Both need to shut up or be locked up. Evidently the common sense of the middle ground is no longer an option.

I wonder what happens when all these militant non-smokers lose the right to eat fat, wear perfume, etc. Everyone has things that irk or disturb them. But do we really want to give the government not only more authority in our life but another excuse to fine or tax?
Hello!

I would like to offer a different perspective on smoking bans. I am a non-smoker who is also an asthmatic. One of the trigers for my asthma is tobacco smoke. I am so sensitive to smoke that even a moderate amount can set off an asthma attack.

Because of this, I have to be very careful where I go. A committee I am on used to meet at a bar, and one time, I had an attack. Luckily, I was able to convince the group to move to a non-smoking venue. I would love to join friends at clubs and bars, but I can't go due to my asthma. I like to dance, but most dance clubs where I live allow smoking, thus I can't go to do what I like. At times, I feel like I am discriminated against because I have asthma.

I want to add that I did not choose to have asthma. If I had the choice, I definitely wouldn't be.

I feel that smoking bans are not designed to discriminate smokers; rather, they are designed to protect the health of everyone, smokers included. While stinky perfume may make others naucious, second hand smoke makes others seriously ill and can even kill them. These bans are a matter of public health.

I hope this helps you understand the importance of smoking bans. I have nothing against smokers, just the smoke. A smoke-free atmosphrere is best for everyone.
