Why can't I stand smokers?
Question:
I know it's because my grandpa died of lung cancer and my uncle is now paralyzed from a stroke due to smoking and drinking. No one else really smokes in my family just my grandpa and uncle.
When I found out my bestfriend smoked I was so angry. I told her I was disappointed and thought she should quit. Today, I found out my bf started to smoke. He said sorry to disappoint me. Usually I would storm out in anger but I've learned that I can't force people to stop smoking. So I told him not to do it around me or even let me see the pack (I have also requested that from my bestfriend).
For some reason I always have this heavy weight on my chest when I see something like that. I know not seeing it won't change what I'm feeling but it'll make me forget even for a moment. I really just want to smack them instead of being calm. I can't accept it.
Answers:
It's understandable, really. Especially those who have lost someone close to them you can't help but think "God, how can people be so IDIOTIC to smoke? It is only going to kill them quicker!" I know I feel that anger.
Being a smoker before, what stopped me was watching a video on Youtube (go figure). Basically, have your friends do this:
1. Get a fresh kleenex.
2. Inhale and hold the smoke in your mouth- blow it onto the kleenex.
3. Inhale the pull, and then blow out.
You will notice how much tar there is from not inhaling, and then on the other blow there is hardly ANY. Thus meaning all that tar is going somewhere- in your lungs.
Ever since seeing that, I've quit smoking- how gross!!
You can't force people, but you can tell them how it makes you feel, and WHY!
cause u still wanna live...
That is because you may have both mental and physical aversion to the smoke. while the physical aversion could be termed as allergy or some kind of irritation both to the nostrils and the brain, the mental aversion is the main reason
Don't be so hard on people, and don't judge so harshly. We all have problems and none of us are perfect. I'm sure you have some imperfection too, but it's just something not as obvious as smoking. Or IS it?
Try being more compassionate, more understanding than understood and more gentle you will win your friend over, I have nutritonal products to help lose weight and stop smoking, you could try marketing these too? Intersted? Email me?

i know the feeling i also hate it .
i think its a lowlife disgusting habit.
i mean why would you want to buy these cancer causing sticks and smoke them,
it stinks and your clothes smell.
girls look right tarts who smoke, and when they are all dying of cancer they all want pity. stuff the lot of them, dirty smelling people.
ps, notice i din't swear lol
i guess you can,t stand stand seeing them get addicted to something that you know is damaging their health but you really need to get counseling to work Thur your anger to realize that your only responsibility is to yourself as you have no control over the actions of others

Its ok to feel they way you do about smoking.. but don't judge people that do. I too do not like the smell of it but it doesn't mean I can make someone feel the way I do. The world is not a perfect place and nobody is perfect.
so what's your question? you asked one, then answered it.
It`s because you know what will happen to them if they continue.
Because smoking is a disgusting habit!!
I cant stand smokers either.
I feel exactly the same. Many of my family members smoke.. I hate it. It's an awful, pointless habit.. I would imagine that the weight you refer to is you worrying about the wellbeing of the person because of your experience with it, but there really is nothing you can do though, as much as I hate to say it. It's a persons' right and choice, albeit a bad one. No matter how hard you try, you're probably going to have a hard time making them see sense.
You've heard the saying... "don't hate the player, hate the game".? Well, you should really focus your dislike of the actual addiction and not the people who have it. You should get active and join some organization that helps people quit.
