As an optometric physician, I am familiar with acanthamoeba and its pathology. I would think that many other amoebas would have similar characteristics, though. As you will see in the article, acanthamoeba has the ability to encapsulate itself into a cyst when stressed (i.e. treated with antibiotics). That is what makes treament so difficult. You treat the amoeba with anitbiotics and everything seems to get better (the amoeba becomes dormant in its cyst state). When treatment is discontinued, though, the amoeba comes out of its cyst state and begins to again attack tissue. So, at least in the case of acanthamoeba, it is possible that the amoeba cannot be removed from the host. Hope this helped.

unfortunately it is almost always the case because it transforms into a highly resistant cystic form, that reactivates each time our defenses are low...so it is considered as a chronic disease
That's possible,,depending on the protozoan pathogen, they can be treated with many Amebicides, antibiotics, and several other drugs.Treatment can be successful, unless the patients condition has been severely compromised by other conditions,or the severity of the infestation. The geographic location and infestation with"exotic" types will also have to be considered. Take care. SW FNP
There have been some unconventional treatments of getting rid of yeast, bacteria, and viruses by taking proteases and celluase. These work by breaking down proteins and cellulose. Cellulose is found in the cell wall of yeasts. Once the cell wall is broken down, your body's immune system will destroy what's left. Virastop, No-Fenol, and digestive enzymes (Proteases, celluase) are being used. There are also anti-parasite formulas in the vitamin stores like Whole Foods Market. I would only use these remedies if your prescription is not working.
