What are the risks of plugging a hole in the heart?
Question:
Answers:
Well, I am a success story. I had a tear in my mitral valve, which grew larger and larger. When I was 4, I had to have surgery to sew it up. There are always risks involved with surgery, but today we have advanced far in medicine. The doctor can tell you more about the risks, which can depend on age, weight, history, etc. But he should be ok. If I didn't have the surgery, I wouldn't be alive today. So yay for heart surgery!
Any surgery on the heart involves some risk, but with the technology available today, there should be great success.
I don't know the size of the perforation (hole) in the heart, but check with the doctor for risks.
Good luck!
