How does one know if they are lactose intolerant?

Question:
I'm a teenager, and up until about last year, I've had no problem with having milk or any other dairy products.
But now, if I have cereal with milk, eat yogurt, or even make pancakes/waffles with milk/buttermilk in the mix, I end up with stomach pains, gas, feeling a bit nauseous and sometimes, diarrhea.
However, I can manage to eat a little ice cream or cheese at times, and I don't have any of the symptoms mentioned above.
Could I be lactose intolerant? How can I know for sure?

Thanks!

Answers:
Sounds like you probably are lactose intolerant. Try drinking the lactose-free milk or eating lactose-free dairy and see if you still have the pain, gas and nausea and diarrhea. If you do, then the problem is something else. Process of elimination.
Check with your Dr. there might be a test to see if you are lactose intolerant.
