I had brain surgery 3 years ago. I have made a terrific recovery, but have "changed".?

Question:
After my surgery to remove a bleeding lesion, recovery was brutal, but three years later I feel I have made almost a complete recover. I have changed a bit personality wise and definetly my perspective on life has changed dramatically. If you have had brain surgery or know someone that has, how have you changed, or how has the person you know changed? What has been the best therapy? For me, learning how to play the guitar has been the best.

Answers:
Matt, It is surely possible brain surgery changed your perspective in just the change of chemical in the brain- but honestly, being a caregiver to my mother who has had Parkinson's Disease for 12 yrs, the change, I feel comes from the experience in itself.
We take advantage of so much in life, and even for me, though I have not ever had brain surgery- my mind thoughts flow far from what it used to. When you see a woman who was so independant, now barely able to get one foot forward because the brain doesn't tell the feet to go- it makes you think about the little things in life that mean the most.
I am now 40, and just in these 12 yrs of my many experiences of raising a daughter, caring for elderly parents, and neighbors etc.. losing our pet to the dog food recall, and so on...all these experiences we journey through make us who we are, changes our outlook on life, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. But they level out in time for the most part.
I am so glad you recovered and doing well! Never second guess yourself, things happen for reason, maybe ones we never understand or ones we even question, but there are reasons why they happen- most of it is a learning process, grow and when we do we become stronger, better human beings and our spirits become more enlightened along the way.
Be proud- and be happy for all you have, all you can do, and feel fortunate that you have been given the chance to rise above what so many others never get the chance rise up from. It isn't about what you get in life, it is what you give. And last but not least, it is the little things in life that mean the most. So many miss all of this- and I get the impression you were awakened to see all these things that you were blind to before. {{hugs}}
Enjoy your guitar, and who knows, maybe something will come of it!! Wishing you the best-
My ex-bf had brain surgery when he was 17 and he def changed. He went to a counselor for a while and is better now. Also he talked with all his friends and family so that helped a tremedous amount!!
I just had brain surgery last week to remove a cyst on the leftside of my brain. It was close to my motor functions. I've had some numbness, but personality wise, I seem to be the same. Any kind of therapy...music, arts, reading..will help stimulate your brain. In my opinion, the more you explore all the different types of therapy, easier you'll find something that will help you get thru it. Best of luck!
I had brain surgery 2 years ago to remove a tumor and it has changed a lot of perspective but my tumor was also near a place that controlled my emotions and my older sister (who I used to fight a lot with) thinks that my personality has changed. As for my capability to do things my tumor was located in the area of my brain that controlled my motor functions so once I could move around again I was better at a lot of things. I was happy when I got home and could still play a difficult piano piece. You might want to check if your town has a support group for those that have had brain surgery, I know my town does and I live in a small community, I have never gone but it might be nice to talk to people that have gone through the same thing as you, I have a twin and she has helped me a lot but she still can't ever know and feel the same way I do about the topic. It is suprising how many people have had a brain tumor or brain surgery there are 3 people including me that live on my street.
