I have to have a CT scan of my hip/pelvic area today.?

Question:

I had to drink part of the barium drink last night, and the other 2 hrs before my test today. I am already feeling nauseaus from not eating and am afraid I will vomit. Will the test be done if I haven't been able to keep the second part of the barium drink down?? I can only drink clear liquids and I have 4 hours before the test, and 2 hours before I have to drink the rest of the liquid. Anyone have any suggestions??

I have had this done plenty of times because I have stomach problems. If you do not drink all of the barium that they give you, the test won't work correctly. Although that stuff tastes horrible you have to drink it. I know that you feel nauseous from not eating, and trust me, the taste of the barium doesn't help, but it will all be over soon enough. Trying drinking some grape propel. It is clear, has vitamins and tastes great!

dont worry go with the doc they will do for ur better life.offcourse barium can be done and everybody feels like vomiting and many vomits too.

Check with the lab technician about your options. May be you can suck a lemon?

You may take an antiemetic, if possible after discussion with your doc. Promethazine (Phenergan, Avomin) 25 mg. will do. All the best!

I agree with ima. Phenergan is good for the treatment of nausea, so is Stemitil and Maxalon. You will need to discuss this with the Dr first though. Even if you go to the place where you are to have the Barium Meal and Swallow, they may give you some. I know it tastes yuck and can make you feel really sick. Just take some deep breaths and close your eyes when you start to feel sick.
