Has anyone had a family member die of Septic Shock?
Question:
Answers:
i myself have not...i'm very sorry to hear about your father. i do, however, work at a hospital in a department where i am made aware of any infection a patient has who is an inpatient. there are many hospital born infetions (ex. MRSA, VRE, CDIFF). unless i were to know what kind of infection that caused the sepsis i wouldn't be able to give you a half way accurate answer. however, the doctors should have tested him MORE than regularly and caught the internal bleeding (which was most likely GI) and changed the medication. it sounds more like it was directly cause by the internal bleeding but the sepsis could have initiated other organ failures.
I'm so sorry to hear that my heart goes out to you and your family. Unfortunately while hospitals may be a place to go to to get well they are also prime breeding ground for hoards of bacteria. Germs today are smart and they have learned to adopt to the medications (antibiotics) we use to treat them. Making them stronger than germs of the past. Unfortunately Nosicomical infections ( Infections that occur after hospitalizations) are all too common and are becoming much harder to treat. Needing harsher and harsher drugs to treat the infections increases the risks of dangerous side effects. Many years ago I had a beloved baby sitter who died in her early 20's at the time they had no explanation for what was happening to to her, but I am almost certain she had septic shock.
