I have recently found out my friend only has one kidney?

Question:
As he only has one kidney, extra care needs to be taken in everyday life. One thing i want to know, is drinking alcohol a big factor, obviously drinking alcohol is never clever, but does the fact he has one kidney change the way he should look at alcohol. I personally don't think it should be any different to someone with two kidneys.

Answers:
You can live completely normal on one kidney. In fact half a kidney.

My sweetie-pie has a kidney transplant. At the age of 20 she found that she had only one kidney, the other one had never grown since she was a baby (it was a kidney-bean! 8^) Well that's the joke I make about it, nobody else thinks it's funny). From that point on, though, her kidney was failing and eventually she had to go on dialysis. Four years of dialysis and she got a transplant. And she is healthier than she ever was!

A lot of people even donate a kidney to someone who needs one. So you can live just fine on one.
A person with one kidney functions just as well as a person having two kidneys. No extra care should be taken that I am aware of.
Yes and his salt intake. Kidneys control blood pressure and common sense tells you if you`ve only got half of what you should have you`ve got to be sensible. We`ve got two for a reason.
My dad has only one kidney. It doesnt matter how much you drink. He is 76 and still very healthy!
Your friend should never drink alcohol and take certain medicines like tylenol or anything that is hard on the liver because the kidneys and liver are partners in life
Alcohol is no longer healthy, all nutritional value has long since gone, they are simply made through low quality chemicals that damage the body, one or two kidneys, both are in danger.
Alcohol is not good for the kidneys, especially if that person drinks a lot, and as he / she only has one then there is no reserve so to speak so it would not be very wise to drink.
When a person has 2 kidneys they have a massive over capability which is natures way of giving us a better chance when things go wrong. People can survive perfectly well with just one kidney, your friend can drink, but he should not over indulge. I have kidney failure and I don't drink very often, but that's a choice I made long before I knew my kidneys were failing.
OK just to shake things up a bit I've got three kidneys. Now before any of you lot start shouting greedy bugger two of them hardly work and the other is a transplant.

Anyway back to the question. As already pointed out we are more than capable of carrying on with normal day to day activities with only one kidney.
