My 3 year old son is undergoing tonsillectomy. Tips on helping him to feel better after the procedure.?

Put his pain meds on a schedule...don't let too much time pass between doses in the first few days. I found out the hard way that it was 100x harder to get the pain under control rather than keeping it under control.

Also, make sure that the foods and fluids are non acidic. While applesauce is soft, it also contains a lot of citric acid and can burn tender tissues.

FYI...his breath will be TERRIBLE, so be prepared to hug and snuggle while breathing thru your mouth!!
Ice cream. No joke.

Be prepared to buy a favorite tv show on DVD too.
Lots of love and ice cream.
Pain medication...lots of soft food that is chilled..such as jello, ice cream, yogurt, chilled pudding...
He's going to wish he had his tonsils out all the time! lol
I was given popsicle sticks and similar types of treats when I was in the hospital after my tonsillectomy. (I stayed about four hours).

Also, make sure you're with him as much as possible, and prepare him for the surgery by explaining that it may hurt, and he'll be put to sleep for a short time, but he'll have less sore throats. That will make it less traumatic for him.
Popcicles work wonders. He may be nauseous afterwards from the anesthesia, but a cool popsicle will help. Don't be scared if he vomits blood right afterwards- it's just from the incision.
