Question:
My doctor prescribed that I take one daily in a third world country I am visiting and increase to 2 if I start having Traveller's diarrhea. Some people have said that it will be ineffective if I take it as a preventive medication. Kinda like the benign bacteria get killed off that are for digestion. Please don't answer if you are not a professional (Doctor or Pharmacist). I need the right advice so it will be effective when I need to stop TD.

Cipro is a pretty strong antibiotic (it can kill anthrax) but you can take it as a preventative measure and to treat illness. While you are on it, I would strongly recommend that you either eat a yogurt with active culture bacteria in it daily or take acidophilus tablets/capsules. The reason why you would want to do this is because many antibiotics also kill off "good" bacteria. So you will want to restore that by ingesting something that contains "good" bacteria, such as yogurt. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water while you are on it.
