What to do about a normal EKG and still having chest pains?

Question:
I am a 40 year old white female who smokes (has for about 23 years, except when I was pregnant for my 3 kids) but doesn't drink often or do any other drugs and have been having chest tightness, pressure, heaviness and minor pain off and on for about a year and a half. I have went to my doctor and they did a stress test in the beginning and chest x-rays and I have even went to the ER 3 times about a year ago because I was really worried and have been told many times by my doctor that I am too young to have heart problems and told by the ER doctors that my EKG and blood work is normal..so I have been researching alot of this online because I know something is wrong but can't figure out what and the doctors here don't seem to think there is but you don't have pain for nothing...this is what I found...

The important thing to remember about EKG's however, is

NORMAL RESTING EKG TELLS YOU LITTLE ABOUT YOUR CORONARY ARTERIES

So why don't the doctors research more????

Answers:
There are many cuases for chest pain other than Angina. IF your stress test was normal, there is a good chance that the chest pain is due to a Hiatal Hernia. Go see a Gastroenterologist and get an EGD (scope down your throat) and that will diagnose it. I have seen many patients your age with significant coronary artery disease. There is a new noninvasive CT scan that can scan the coronary arteries. It is available in most medium size hospitals. Hope this helps.
I wish I knew. I have a very slight chest pain on my left side that never shows up on an EKG and my heart doc says it is not my heart. I am a 57 yr old male. I don't smoke or drink and walk more and more but am still about 70 lbs over weight and have lost 55 lbs and on weight watchers. So if you ever find an answer let me know. OK?
Do see a doctor. I've had the same issue. Luckily after an echo stress test, Ifound out it was not a heart problem.
Other ailments can cause chest pain, but you need to be checked out bya doctor, not webMD.
You need to find a new doctor. If your dr told you that you are too young for heart problems, he made a grave error. There is no age limit on heart conditions. Please get a second or if necessary third opinion. Also good for you for being proactive in your own health. That is very important as well.
Hello All
Doctors cannot tell you everything. The only thing who can tell you is yourself.
Wheneven you feel somethingw rong, like headache or chest pain, or anything, think of the food/drink you have taken, or activity you have done.. Then you can identify what causes you this health condition.
Remember to practise everything in moderation.
If you want to live( I`m not saying long) independent from others`s help, please change your life style. You are the one who should love yourself best.
Im trying to lose weight and taking care of myself.
You can do it.
it sounds like the doctors did the appropriate initial tests, but you should seek out the opinion of another doctor.you are not TOO young to have angina, but other problems can mimic heart related pain such as gallbladder problems, or stomach ulcer...further testing should be done...
A normal EKG says you have no heart damage, yet. But it sounds like you are at high risk to drop dead from a heart attack. First heart attacks kill 60% of the time.

The only good picture of the arteries is an angiogram, and they won't do one without greater indication of a problem, such as unstable angina.

Answers is not the place for serious research. If you want to find studies, go to www.pubmed.gov, and have some patience.

Statistically, you are unlikely to have heart disease, so HMO's won't spend money on you when the results are likely to be negative. My only risk factor seemed to be genetic. I am slim, athletic, eat well (but not great), don't smoke or drink or do drugs. 18 months ago I suddenly got staggering angina from minor activity. An angiogram revealed my three main cardiac arteries were 99%, 99% and 80% blocked, and they did an emergency triple bypass the next day. Word of my angiogram results spread around the hospital, and I was visited during the night by nurses who simple said to me they wanted to see "the miracle man".

I would think you have blockages that are not causing heart attacks ... yet. But they could any day. How old do you want to be when you die ? One more day, one more year, 10 years, 20 years ?

Put your cigarettes in the toilet, don't buy another pack. Start walking for exercise, not alone, or without a cell phone. Start having a lot of fruit in your diet, and cut WAY back on fats and anything any any amount of trans fats. Assume you have bad cardiovascular disease that will only get worse without change.

Do this, and you may save your own life, and a lot of money on medical care.

Your diet, smoking, and exercise are three things to take control of.

And I had a normal EKG while in massive pain 10 hours before my bypass surgery.
Your never too young to have a heart attack.Children, though rare, have had heart attacks. It is all too easy to dismiss possible heart symptons as menopause,or some hormone related condition when it comes to women. It is possible that you may be under a lot of stress, which is causing you to have panic attacks which mimic heart attacks. It has only been recently that some doctors are coming around to realizing that women can have heart attacks too.Check with your doctor to see if there may be other causes of your symptons.
I went through all their tests for about a year.Everything always came back fine.I was so fed up!I told the cardiologist I didn't care what the stress and EKG said I knew something was wrong so he said the only thing he could do is send me out for a heart cath.I went out first thing Monday morning and Tuesday morning I was in surgery having a double bypass.I was 46.The doctors were all shocked.Normally their heart patients either have a history or are much older.Come to find out my mother had pretty much the same thing so I guess it did run in the family but if your not tested how do ya know?By the way I too was a smoker for about 29 years. This was my wake up call.I have been smoke free for 9 months and I feel great!I think God was giving me a warning that if I didn't quit smoking I wasn't going to see my grandkids grow up.NO WAY!IT IS NOT WORTH IT!
