Blood pressure machines are not 100% accurate and have a hard time reading some people for seemingly no reason. What I was taught is that, if the machine doesn't work, do it manually. That's the best way to get an abnormal blood pressure.
In my opinion, you probably have an abnormal pulse the automatic blood pressure machines have a hard time detecting. When you get your blood pressure taken next time, ask to get it done manually.
that always happens to my mom. She will be sitting there forever!!..She has high blood pressure and takes medication for it...But usually after she gets it under control, it starts up again where she needs a new medicine.Im not sure what causes it, but your not the only one
You got a dumb nurse - you can always get a blood pressure - even if you have to use palpation ( putting your fingers on the pulse) to get only the systolic (top number of the blood pressure) a lot of people have arms that those stupid machine will not read - that is when you pull out the old cuff and take it with a stethoscope. I would not sweat it too much If you are up walking around and not having any light headed feeling when you stand up from a chair. If you do get light headed try another clinic and ask to have a real nurse check you out.
Your not the only one this has happened to. This has happened to me but only once about 2 years ago. My personal opinion, it was the machine. I am assuming you are talking about one of those automatic blood pressure machines. My personal opinion: The nurse should have tried another machine or took it the old fashioned manual way with a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope. I would not be concerned, equipment fails all the time (but they should have had a back-up way to check your blood pressure).
