If both tears and sweat are salty, why dont tears burn like sweat does when it gets in your eyes?
Question:
Answers:
The normal pH (measurement of acid vs. base [alkali]) is different for all of our secretions as is the pH of the area/organ/gland/compartment etc. that the solution circulates around/resides on. The oil mixed with sweat on our skin is much more acidic than tears. Since our eyes require lubricant and solution that is less acidic, the sweat will elicit a burning sensation if it gets into our eyes. Blood has a more neutral pH as compared to the average pH of urine which is generally more alkalotic (can fluctuate between acidic to alkalotic dependent upon numerous factors). The fluid between the 2 membranes of the outside of the lung is also less acidic -- more alkalotic than blood. The reason people who injure an organ in an accident can end - up with a burning pain in their belly is partially due to: the leakage of the more acidic blood into the sensitive tissue around the organs in the abdominal cavity. It gets complicated; I hope this gives you some understanding.
What makes you think your tears are salty?
Your entire body has salt in it to some degree. Your tears have so minute an amount that it is not irritating to your eyes.
Tears fall from ur eyes but dont get in ur eyes.
It's actually saltier. The water dries out of the sweat as it sits on your skin, leaving the sweat saltier, so that's why it burns your eyes. Plus, it picks up whatever residues are on your skin and that irritates your eyes.
Sweat doesnt burn for me... so id help if i could- but idk. Maybe your just weird in that sense. lol.
