What can I do about this build up of mucous in my throat and mouth?

Question:
Please help especially doctors nurses. I have a build up of mucous that continues to drain and get stuck in my throat. My breathe smells awful. This has been ongoing for almost a year. I can cough up some of the mucus which is white but it really coats my mouth overnight. I wake up with mucus and bacteria pieces in my mouth even after I have brushed and rinsed before bed. Please help this really sucks and is embarrassing.

Answers:
You need to be seen by your doctor to determine the cause of the mucus. I don't doubt that you wake up with mucus in your mouth but you have bacteria in your mouth at all times. I've never heard of "bacteria pieces". It may possibly be allergy-related but you'd do better to get a real diagnosis rather than the speculation you'll get here. In the meantime, increase your water intake dramatically. This may help thin the secretions and also help reduce some of the tenacity. The odor is most likely due to bacterial build up in the mucus. It's the job of mucus to trap bacteria, viruses and other debris.
You could be looking at the symptoms called post nasal drip. I would suggest doing a search on that. As far as the bad breath goes, I suggest gargling with apple cider vinegar, it will kill the bacteria in the back of throat. Do it twice a day. I would go see an ears nose and throat specialist as well. All the best.
