cold sores are cause by a herpes virus hsv1. It is a very common infection (most people have the virus in their bodies)
It is contagious.
Cold sores are caused by a version of the herpes virus. I don't know what you'd consider a "bad" disease, but there is no cure for it, meaning if you get cold sores you will continue to get them for life. There are some medications that can help, however. If you have a cold sore, you need to be careful not to infect others. This means no kissing, no eating or drinking after someone, and also be careful about things like sharing towels, as the virus can live on some materials. If you have a cold sore, you need to visit your doctor.
cold sores may be a type of herpes, not all. it can be treated with some prescription but once you get them it kind of dormants and never goes away which means there will be come back every so often. many people get them by kissing someone with a cold sore and it is common to get them at a young age as well because babies are kissed by a lot of relatives, friends, etc. sometimes you can cause an outbreak from stress etc. its not horrbile just get it checked
if it really bothers you inside your mouth you can either swish your mouth out with saltwater, or mix half 3% hydrogen piroxide with water and swish with that. Don't mix both! Just one or the other, or alternate. Both will relieve sores in your mouth, and both will help with cavities too. Happy swishing!
