practice breathing exercise. It will improve all the problems. inhale through one nostril and exhale through the other. Then inhale through the other and exhale through this nostril. Continue this for 5 minutes. Then inhale and exhale alternately through both nostrils. Do this for 5 minutes. Then inhale and breath out through the mouth.
Daily two times you practice this. All your ailments will vanish.
Boil water, put one teaspoon of table salt in it, mix it and when it is warm, pour it in to your mouth and gargle. do it 3 to 4 times a day.

Liquid does not touch the vocal cords during swallowing-- if it did, you would end up coughing your head off.
Your vocal cords are probably still a bit swollen after having the flu, and will remain that way if you continue to cough, speak loudly, sing, clear your throat, yell, hum, or whisper loudly. Your best bet is to take an anti-inflammatory, like Aleve or ibuprofen, and drink cool water. Avoid hot liquids, as they will not help with the swelling in the other parts of your throat, and cold, icy liquids may trigger a coughing fit. Voice rest is the most helpful of all, and in addition to the other things I mentioned, talk as little as possible. If you get the urge to clear your throat, drink a bit of water instead. Swollen vocal cords will make a person sense something needs to be expelled from the throat, when in reality they are only feeling the swollen cords. Your voice should be fine in 3 or 4 weeks.
