The whole family needs traeting, including her dads family AND school friends, grandparents etc otherwise you will keep getting re infected.
Get a large botle of conditioner and comb in through the hair. Then use a lice comb to go through every bit of the hair. Do this daily for a wekk and you should get the little horrors out!
use an electric nit comb zapper
The whole house has to be cleaned in order to prevent headlice from reoccuring. Step 1 is use RID, Step 2 is wash EVERYTHING (sheets, blankets, clothes, etc.) Step 3 bag up anything that cannot be cleaned for 4 weeks in a black trash bag (pillows, stuffed animals, etc.). Lice can live on other objects for 4 weeks after that if they cannot find something they will die.
My daughter had it for months and i tried every product old wives tales the lot. The only way we got rid of them was relentless combing for 2 weeks. Good luck.
Lice are very pesky and hard to get rid of. You cant totally relay on just the product itself. You have to make sure your child has always clean sheets and towels with each use, combing hair twice a day with fine tooth comb and reapplying the RID every 7-10 days is advised. You have to be very consistent with it or they will come back, and they multiply fast and in any coditions.
Fresh onion juice is very smelly and unpleasant to use, and i heard that it may work, but I doubt that any home products would do better job than specially designed product tht will kill them and not you! Good luck! You got your work cut out for you.
I have been winning and losing ground with my 11 year old for last few years with this issue, only way we really got rid of it, was cutting hair down to less then 1 inch. then it was easier to remove the nits and live louse.
Last year we got a nit comb when she got them again, probably in school and used allot of hair conditioner on her scalp , rubbed it in very well, and pulled thru every area with the metal fine tooth nit comb, Seems the conditioner was heavy enough to suspend the louse and nits while smooth enough to lubricate the comb thru the hair nap...
yes this is a pain in the ****, but beats cutting off all your hair, and washing your entire house for a week. best do some research on yahoo or google about lice and how to combat them might find better ideas.
if their are omish in ur neighbor hood go get shampoo from them (thats what i did) theirs also stuff u could get from ur local pharmacy called lice trearment shampoo. its for lice and it has a nit comb. it cost $7 just wash ur hair with it i might beable to know more if i can find out where u live small town listen to this big town mabey not
RID is good but you have to use it EXACTLY as it states on the package, without skipping any steps, or it will not work.

As strange as it may sound, Listerine mouthwash...
My daughter had nits a couple of years ago, and I would buy the expensive lotions from the chemist and sit for hours with the nit comb. I would have her clear, and everytime she went back to school she came home with a fresh crop. Someone in her class had them and wasnt being treated. I spent a fortune trying all sorts, and eventually bought some "info" from Ebay, and it suggested putting listerine onto dry hair and covering with a shower cap. Leave on for as long as you can (4 hours is plenty if the child can last that long, although mine didnt last more than an hour and we got great results) then rinse out. I was amazed after only 1 hour, the amount of dead lice and nits that washed out of her hair... It even killed the nits, and a few mins with the nit-comb got rid of the most stubborn ones. After that, I got a spray bottle with a little listerine and water, and misted her hair everytime she was going to school. No-one noticed, it smelled like she'd just cleaned her teeth, but it prevented another infestation.
I honestly must've spent over £80 in the chemist during that period, and of course, the louse tend to become immune to chemical treatment pretty quickly so it actually stops working, but this little bottle of listerine worked far far better and quicker than anything i'd ever seen before, and only cost a couple of pounds. I've passed this info round the school to teachers and mums, and the school havent had any bother with lice or nits since (touch wood!!)
There are some very good natural herbal products. Please ask your question to ayurvedaonline@yahoogroups.com
There was similar query and the doctors answered for this.
Take a pouch of tobacco leaves, add water and ground them into a fine paste. Massage this paste on the head and apply it also on the hair liberally. Do this before going to bed. In the morning wash the hair thorughly. Repeat this treatment two to three times after every three days. All head lice will be gone. Care should be taken to keep oneself away from fire or inflammable substances when this treatement is done as tobacco has a tendency to catch fire easily.
I gave my friend a home remedy that she tried and it actually worked. Good old vaseline. Cover your heads in it and wrap in plastic wrap for the night. Also you are going to have to wash all the sheets and pillows cases in hot water, put all stuffed animals into plastic garbage bags and tie them shut for a week and vacumn very well. After the night of vaseline treatment the lice and nits have nothing to stick to at all. It takes several washings to get the vaseline out but there will be no more lice. However if the problem at Dad's isn't corrected she will continue to bring them home.
