Why are Surgeons called Mr and not Dr?
Question:
Answers:
I've never heard of a surgeon who preferred to be called Mr, but in countries other than the US that is sometimes the common practice. Yes, surgeons are doctors and they truly deserve the title. I'm posting a link that will help explain the Mr. vs Dr.
dr is wen they study in college for 6 years
mr is wen you study 4
hope i helped
omg, are you sure that was a surgeon? That are all called Dr, because they are doctors. If called Mr., he's not a doctor
From an early time in history being a Surgeon was a dirty job.
Not many people wanted to do it.
Mainly the people who was doing it was your local barber!
So they weren't classed as Doctors.
I guess this has carried on from history.
I also add that Surgeons are officially classed as Mr.
And the Mr. And Dr. title has nothing to do with how many years you've studied.. lol
If he is a licensed Dr. then he is a Dr. He may just prefer Mr.
You may check to make sure he is licensed, and where he graduated medical school and his residency This is odd. I have Dr. that use first name, but they put Dr.______(first name)
They are called doctor, not mister. Maybe you had a first assistant, or physician assistant doing your surgery. Or maybe your doctor just didn't care for the uppity sound of doctor.
In the UK surgeons are called Mr's when they become specialists (if they are still training, they are Dr's). So, if your guy was a Mr, you can be sure he was a trained specialist. It is only true in the UK as far as I know, though :)
The reason for it is the mentioned dirty thing done by barbers in the past.
Surgeons ore called "Doctor" not "Mister". Everyone is graduated in Medicine (as I am) is Doctor, so a surgeon must be called Doctor. In some cases, it is possible to say Mr. --------, MD (Medicinae Doctor). Are you sure he was a surgeon?
I would be suspect if he was not called Doctor. They are Doctors with even more training.
