The last few times my sister has visited the doctor...?

Question:
she was told she could only see a PA(Physicians Assistant), and not the doctor. Is this a common practice now a days? See would like to talk to the doctor but apparently he is either too busy or too disinterested. Just curious if this is a common thing among the medical field now.

Answers:
tell them that you are paying to see THAT doctor and you would like to see him. I kid you not, i sat in a dr's office refusing to leave or talk to the PA until he came in. Im not paying out the butt for a dr that doesnt have the time or interest to see me. I would search around for a new dr. if i was you :)
she needs to find another doctor. if the doctor can't find the time to sit with their patients then he's not the one for her.
Trust me, the doctor is NOT disinterested. He will hire a PA to help him with less complicated cases and patients. The only real difference is that a PA can not prescribe certain narcotic drugs with out the MD or DO's approval. They can not perform certain surgeries also. Otherwise, they are just as qualified.
It is very common. many medical practices hire PA or NP (Nurse practitioners) who assists the MDs of taking care some of the patient load. BUT these NPs and PAs have limited functions such as not able to prescribe ALL the medications, and cannot perform all surgical procedures (they can assist however, but they are not the primary surgeons). PA's or NP's can diagnose, prescribe certain meds, perform certain OB/GYN procedures such as pap smear, stitch up a laceration or avulsion, etc. (FYI: go to your State's website about their allowable practices)
The other doctors must of been full or maybe weeks to get into see .So she had to see the other one in that had a opening.
