Is Dr Frank around? I don't know if I got fobbed off by the consultant today?
Question:
My symptoms: swelling of joints on fingers = difficulty + pain writing, opening doors etc, pain in knees when walking up stairs and sometimes just walking, all temperature and weather dependent – sometimes even swelling up and being extremely painful without doing much.
went to the consultant today, I'm well aware that he’s an expert, but i think on this occasion he just wasn’t listening. he said it was a problem with my neck (never had any neck problems) and posture causing nerve problems and deferred pain - he based this on cold sweaty hands (caused by my phobia of drs) and small amount of tingling i felt when he pushed my hands back towards my body. he said the leg problems were caused by tight hamstrings (this is weird cos my GP told me in my notes from when I tried to get this sorted as a child it says i

It sounds like you have a good relationship with your GP, can you call the surgery and arrange to speak with them and go over your concerns? They can probably arrange a second referral if you are unhappy.
Otherwise call NHS Direct (0845 46 47). They'll take all kinds of details and have someone appropriate call you back. I always find them very friendly, approachable, and most of all, helpful! They won't diagnose over the phone, but should be able to talk to you about what to do if you're unhappy with your treatment/consultation.
You shouldn't feel like you are being fobbed off. Be polite but firm (never raise your voice to people looking after your health and well-being!) and keep pushing until you get what you need - ie a better consultation. Good luck!
why would you trust anyone on the internet?
i sounds if he just had a glance at your notes and did not read them properly try and get refereed to someone else if you can if not go back and demand that he looks at your notes and xray when you are there it sounds to me like you have arthritis put your foot down and make them listen
yes you should go see a real doctor
This sounds like rheumatoid arthritis and yes I think you are being fobbed off by someone who just isn't interested. Demand a second opinion.
ok, I am not Dr Frank but it sounds like a bum diagnosis. Have you had your rheumatoid factor checked cos my stepdad suffered all these symptoms and he had rheumatoid arthritis. I would seek a 2nd opinion.
Sure neck problems can cause pain elsewhere but you obviously aren't satisfied either with that diagnosis.
If you want a second opinion and maybe a more thorough
examination and diagnosis, the clinic below could examine you in person, and take it from there.
Ur showing classic signs of rheutmatoid arthritis.Go and see a doctor plz.
