Question:
Answers:
Not necessarily. Being able to think abstractly is helpful.
I think it all depends on how our brains are wired. Some people , have common sense, and some have book sense. Some have both. Others, are like "Monk" on TV !
no, being able to think rationally and abstractly are the key requirements to solving riddles.
depends on the riddle!
It helps, however the human brain does not work entirely that way...
Repetitive tasks that require concentration, require a minumum IQ, average 86..solving riddles, will widen the amount of information in some topics, hoewever, its the semantics that really grow bigger inside our brain (the storing area of words of the inner temporal lobe).
IQ, really gets a nice "tuning" with riddles, however. total IQ readings, do not change one bit. It gives you only more ability to recall old forgotten words, or acquire new ones..
The main application is to speed the learning of languages, as far as I know.
There are some studies that you can check, about puzzles and riddles, and quickness for thoughts and IQ at web pages pubmed.com, or medscape.com under the titles "Intelectual queficient and semantic challenges"..and many other titles. The subject has been under evaluation in the last 28 years.and the results obtained have been consistently the same over the years....
Have a beautiful riddle (day)
It all depends on you actually. Some people are masters in World of Warcraft, but can't win a single chess match. Or some Mathematicians may as sharp as a calculator, but crack when Science is added. Depending on which part of the brain you're attuned with, you can be either good at it, proving you more of an abstact thinker, or lose it on the first one, telling you that you're more of a practical and visual thinker.
