Why are my kids still coughing? What is up with their nose bleeding?

Question:
My whole family has been coughing for the past week. Accompanied by vomiting, once every other day. Now my oldest has gotten nose bleeds. It started off with my husband 3 weeks ago. Then me a week and a half ago. Now my kids this past week. My has been through for about a week. I just finished. Any Ideas? Can't go to the doctor, I have a $6000 deductable. No cash that is why I am asking.

Answers:
Hmm, sounds like a tricky problem!

The coughing could be just a cold, and lots of coughing can trigger the gag reflex in the eosophagus, leading to vomiting, but if they have stomach pain before vomiting, then it's probably not it...
They could have a gastro bug and a cold, which could explain the nose bleeds. If there's a combination of vomiting and coughing, then there are two passageways where things are coming up them with great force, possibly abrasive force, against the area beneath the nose, which could trigger a nosebleed.
Don't take my word or anyone other than a professional's as a quick-fix solution, this is mainly opinion. It could be a simple bug that's going around, but if you have any concerns, go to a medical centre or a cheap state-funded doctor's office - they can help you better than any random on the internet.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
surely you have a free clinic near you, or the state health department. these places are usually free, if not, extremely cheap. you must have your children checked out and put on medicine if needed. good luck!
If you have insurance, you most likely have an office-visit co-pay. It sounds like something serious, and at least you should take the kids in. Find a way to pay for it - cut out the cable, eat out less, buy groceries at the discount store - whatever it takes.
This is the HEALTH of your CHILDREN here.
Make sure it is nothing environmental causing these symptoms and see if there is some type of insurance where you live that is offered to children regardless of income.
Pay attention to the answer that talks about an environmental cause. Then look up whooping cough to see if that might be your problem. Sometimes when you've been vaccinated, you don't get it as bad, so this could be whooping cough. It's kind of weird though for the whole family to have it. The good part is that you all seem to be getting over it. If it comes back again, look for environmental causes.
